The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

Whenever a significant honors show draws close, there’s always an outcry to include of new categories to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the hearts of enthusiasts with niche passions.

Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: We need a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession for the industry of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release missed out that year
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most popular titles worldwide and have been for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the hard edge game development, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
